Wow. The power of the Internet. Yes, Austin, that was me, and I am going to give you a call tomorrow night after my son's soccer game. Please give my best to your family.

Not only did I have dinner with Austin's family, I worked closely with his dad almost every day. Russell Goldman was one of my heroes. He worked two jobs and still had time to work on voter registration, hold NAACP meetings, and devote every ounce of energy he had to bettering conditions for his people. And as I recall, he managed to do it all with a great sense of humor and a generous heart for all of humanity, black and white.

Years ago during the height of the civil rights era, a man named Tom Gardner came to Cullen,VA in Charlotte County ,VA to have dinner with my dad Russell Goldman ( Pres of the Charlotte County NAACP). I was very young at the time but remember the name Tom Gardner. I read the story of Tom Gardner and his involvement in Charlotte County in the Vietnam War Draft Story. I believe Tom is the man that had dinner at our home during an investigation of civil rights violations. My mom and dad are still alive ( 84 years old) and reside at 1825 Taro Rd., Cullen, Va.23934. Call me if you know how to contact Mr. Tom Gardner- we would love to see him!
