No good wars, that's pretty simple stuff.
Peace begets peace; violence, violence.
Use your words, as the mothers say...

I hate to be reductive, because I do understand that there are so many complexities to getting along. I also believe that violence never serves us as well as another tact.

Thanks for passing this on.

Unfortunately, to many (most) <a href="http://progressiveworldreview.com/2008/07/12/what-is-patriotism/" rel="nofollow">patriotism</a> means loyalty to the herd rather than to the ideals this country was founded upon.

From George Orwell's '1984'

<blockquote>"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'"</blockquote>

These stories are emblematic of an administration and culture that's far more concerned with controlling the message than with freedom and democracy. The war in Iraq has cost much more than the lives lost and the treasure spent, it's robbing our nation's very identity.

This is indeed encouraging. I was a child of the sixties and I vividly remember young people in this country standing up for what they believe in. Unfortunately, in our ever increasingly corporatized culture, much of that seems to be lost, but maybe not completely forgotten.

Progressive ideals & Barack Obama staring at his lapel pin on the cover of the Rolling Stone...

Every time the left/progressive movement defends something rather than asserts we lose. Anti-war is so much less powerful than peace. Anti-choice is so much wimpier than equal rights for women. Anti-global warming really begs the questions, while sustainability offers a vision.

A challenge for us all to put forth our visions, our hopes, our dreams & ideals. Then it's easy to claim our progressive selves with pride & platform!

How powerfully put, everything from the intimacy of Kevin's loss (& that of his entire family) to the largeness of what we all need to do: stop this war by speaking up & standing up for our beliefs.

Impossible not to be moved to do something.

I am a vietnam veteran who has PTSD,some thing I have had since 1969.I am being treated at the VA clinic in College station.Tx.witch is under the central texas health care system in temple .Tx.I was diagnosised with PTSD in 2005 and started treatment in early 2007.i filled a claim in Mar.07 and Have not heard any thing yet.If a C&P doc.says you have some thing else and your doc diagnosis of PTSD then thats just another way the VA puts off paying you for it.it will take years for you to get an appeal through.Another GWB way of not taking care of the people that take care of this country.....
